Mr. Schweitzer advises transportation corporations and their associations on legal issues involving their business operations, including the following:

  • He frequently assists shippers, carriers and freight intermediaries in drafting transportation contracts. He also advises clients on regulatory requirements for contracts of carriage, bills of lading, equipment lease forms, and personnel leasing agreements.

  • He has developed a comprehensive model drug testing and employee education and training program for the Gases and Welding Distributors Association, a national trade association representing over 600 companies that operate truck fleets, and advises individual corporate clients on compliance with DOT and state drug and alcohol testing rules affecting employees in various modes of transportation and the effects of drug testing programs on a carrier's collective bargaining agreements, personnel practices, disciplinary procedures, and benefits package.

  • He also frequently advises companies on worker's compensation and wage and hour law issues under the Fair Labor Standards Act and similar state laws. Further, his practice provides advice on employee disciplinary policies, hiring and termination procedures, drug and alcohol testing programs, and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act.

He has drafted contractual language for compliance with domestic and international hazardous materials regulations for shippers and carriers.
