Mr. Schweitzer frequently prepares and files applications for motor carrier, broker and freight forwarder operating authority, transfer of certificates in the event of mergers or acquisitions, and registration with state agencies. He also advises clients on procedures for obtaining authority and beginning or restructuring motor carrier or intermediary operations.
His practice includes advice and litigation assistance for motor carrier cargo loss and damage issues, and he has litigated a number of cargo loss and damage claims for both shippers and carriers in federal and state courts.
Mr. Schweitzer also advises clients on the safety requirements for new motor carrier entrants imposed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, registration and permit requirements for shippers and carriers of hazardous materials, and on the requirements for Mexican carriers seeking entry into U.S. motor carrier markets.
